Professor Chan Wing Kin, Alfred, BBS has been Managing Director of The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited (Towngas) since 1997, and Chairman and Executive Director of Towngas China Company Limited since 2007.
Prior to joining Towngas, Professor Chan had 14 years of industrial experience, in both Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. A staunch advocate of quality, service and business growth, he has introduced and practised the concept of total quality management at Towngas, enhancing the health, safety, environment, engineering and customer service excellence of the Group, as well as rapidly expanding its portfolio of joint-venture projects. Under his leadership, Towngas has transformed from a local Hong Kong piped gas company into a multi-discipline regional conglomerate in Asia. Today, the Group operates a wide spectrum of businesses in utility, infrastructure, energy, environment, telecommunication, and manufacturing, and provides gas supply and related services to over 26 million households and businesses in mainland China, with over 240 joint ventures spread over 26 provincial regions of the mainland.
Professor Chan's outstanding leadership skills and business acumen have been recognised on numerous occasions. He received the Executive Award at the DHL/SCMP Hong Kong Business Awards 2005, and was amongst the winners of the Director of the Year Awards held by The Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2006. He has also been on the Harvard Business Review's list of 100 BestPerforming CEOs in the World for four consecutive years, from 2015 to 2018, and received the honour of CEO of the Year Award from China Newsweek in 2017.
In his own field, Professor Chan received the Gas Industry Award 2015 - Leadership Award from the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers and the Energy and Utilities Alliance of the United Kingdom. An engineer by training, currently, Professor Chan is a Fellow of The Hong Kong Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Honorary Fellow of the Energy Institute of the United Kingdom, Fellow of the Institution of Gas Engineers & Managers of the United Kingdom and Honorary Fellow of International Institute of Utility Specialists.
Professor Chan is also committed to fostering development of the younger generation. He was a Council Member of the Hong Kong Institute of Education (now Education University of Hong Kong) from 1998 to 2004, Deputy Chairman of the Council from 2002 to 2004, and recipient of an Honorary Fellowship in 2016. Professor Chan has also served in public service in a number of industrial, business and government committees. In recognition of his contribution to public service, Professor Chan was awarded the Bronze Bauhinia Star in 2005.
Professor Chan first joined the Hong Kong Management Association in the mid-1990s and has over the past 25 years dedicated both time and effort to a wide range of projects, including the Annual Conference, HKMA/TVB Awards for Marketing Excellence, Quality Award, and Theme Year Working Party. He has partaken in the Marketing Management Committee, General Management Committee, and Membership Committee, and served as Council and Executive Committee Member. He was Deputy Chairman of the Association from 2010 to 2014, and assumed Chairmanship in 2014. Professor Chan was made Honorary President upon stepping down from his role as Chairman in 2016.
Professor Mark Michelson is an Adjunct Associate Professor for Master's programs in Global Political Economy and in Public Policy at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is also the Chairman of the Asia CEO Forum for IMA Asia, which helps leaders of multinational companies in Asia Pacific to monitor and assess political, economic and commercial developments across the region and to integrate key insights into their operational and strategic business plans.
He is currently Vice-Chairman of the Board of the Hong Kong-America Center, Senior Counselor and member of the International Advisory Council at APCO Worldwide which provides public affairs and strategic communications services in Asia-Pacific and globally. He also serves on the Vision 2047 Foundation and The American Chamber of Commerce Board of Trustees, as well as the Fulbright Advisory Committee which nominates Fulbright recipients from Hong Kong.
He has served as Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Country Club, and has been a member of three Hong Kong Government advisory committees.
Professor Michelson earned his BA from Carleton College and his doctorate from the University of Illinois. He also attended Harvard University, the University of Tokyo and the New York University Graduate School of Business and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship to undertake research in Japan.
Mark participated at the CEO experience sharing session during the Georgetown University Summer Study Program organized by the AMD this year.
Professor Edith Shih has extensive experience in the legal, regulatory, corporate finance and corporate governance fields. She is Executive Director and Company Secretary of CK Hutchison Holdings Limited, a Fortune 500 conglomerate based in Hong Kong which she has served for 30 years. Professor Shih is at present the International President and Executive Committee chairs of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators as well as a past President, past President and council member and current chairperson of various committees and panels of The Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Secretaries. She is also the Chairman of the Governance Committee and the Remuneration Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Professor Shih is a panel member of the Securities and Futures Appeals Tribunal and a member of the Process Review Panel for the Financial Reporting Council. She is also a council member of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, a trustee of Columbia University, New York and a member of the Advisory Board of the MBA programme of the University of Hong Kong. In addition, she is a member of the Professional Services Advancement Support Scheme Vetting Committee and the Hong Kong Council of Accreditation for Academic and Vocational Qualifications.
In recognition of Shih's achievement in the legal field, she was awarded a number of prestigious awards throughout her career: the first Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year Award of Asian Legal Business in 2006, the first Asian Woman in Business Law Award of the Legal Media Group in 2011, General Counsel of the year (Asia-Pacific Counsel Awards) of International Law Offices in 2014 and the Hong Kong In-House Lawyer of the Year of Asian Legal Business in 2016. Her relentless efforts in promoting good governance and ethics in the corporate world both locally and internationally won her and her group numerous awards in corporate governance and CSR in Hong Kong and Asia.
Professor Shih is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales, Hong Kong and Victoria, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Education (Music) and a Master of Arts degree from the University of the Philippines. She also holds a Master of Arts degree in Teaching of English to Speakers of Other Languages and a Master of Education degree in Applied Linguistics from Columbia University, New York.
Over the years, Edith has lent her support to the Association through taking on different roles. She is currently a member of the Council and the Executive Committee and has been Chairman of the General Management Committee since 2016. As a result of Edith's generous donations, a training room at the HKMA Advanced Management Development Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui is named Edith Shih Lecture Room. The Association is also indebted to Edith for her sponsorship of the HKMA Youth Development Scheme.
