In 1985, the Association introduced a theme year concept to its work in order to bring greater focus to various aspects of management. The year 2019 is devoted to the theme "Capturing Emerging Opportunities through Innovative and Entrepreneurial Leadership".
Each year, a Theme Year Working Party is formed to be responsible for planning, implementing and co-ordinating a series of activities pertaining to the theme. An important highlight of the Theme Year activities is the Susan Yuen Memorial Lecture in recognition of the Association's first Chief Executive, the late Mrs Susan Yuen's contribution to the business community of Hong Kong.
