Modern Youth Alliance Association Won the Hong Kong Management Game Champion

10/9/2012

The team from Modern Youth Alliance Association (MYAA) emerged as the Champion of the Hong Kong Management Game 1 September by outperforming four other finalist teams.

The Management Game is a simulation exercise making use of the computer program SIMBUSI to simulate a competitive business environment.

In the Hong Kong Final, each of the five teams managed a company selling headphones. Their business objective was to outperform all other competitors and return the highest profit.

Apart from the typical decisions like pricing, marketing and production, teams have to make strategic decisions like acquiring an import licence at a high cost for the export market. In the middle part of the competition, teams also suffered from a loss because of fire, which was uninsured, and they had to try their very best to serve their markets without disappointing their customers. Teams also competed amongst each other to secure an exclusive site for display booth to promote their products.

At the end of the six periods, MYAA reaped a total of $12.9 million profit and won the honour of Hong Kong champion. The team from "Get A" which was formed by a group of friends became the first runner-up, and the team from HACTL, came third.

The champion team was awarded four airtickets to Singapore, a cash prize of HK$5,000 and the SCMP Morning Post Perpetual Trophy.

The first runner-up team received a cash prize of HK$3,000. The second runner-up was awarded a cash prize of HK$2,000.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held immediately after the competition. It was officiated by Mr Rex Aguado, Chief Editor of Recruitment Services, South China Morning Post Publishers Limited; and Dr Victor Lee, Executive Director, The Hong Kong Management Association.

Organized by the Hong Kong Management Association, the Game is sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, Maxim`s Group, the South China Morning Post, Classified Post, Fuel as well as Jiu Jik.
