The Hong Kong Management Association Continued to Cultivate Excellence in Education, Training Advancement, and New Fortes of the Business Community in 2017 6/7/2018
The Hong Kong Management Association held its 57th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, 5 July 2018 at its Headquarters. Mr James Thompson GBS, Chairman of the Association reported that 2017 has been another momentous year in many aspects, witnessing a proud record of constructive developments and breakthroughs in many aspects of the work of the Association. "The Association launched a series of celebratory initiatives and continued to cultivate excellence in education, training advancement, and new fortes of the business community in 2017," said Mr Thompson. Attributing from its commitment to nurturing human capital while anticipating a forthcoming need for shaping aspiring talents, the Association launched the Youth Development Scheme in 2017 with a mission to widen the horizons of youngsters through a series of company visits and inspiring events, benefiting over 100 students of secondary schools, post-secondary institutions, and universities. The Association continued to devote vigorous efforts in promoting senior executive development through the Institute of Advanced Management Development (AMD) with a diversified range of prestigious programmes in collaboration with world-class professors and institutions including Yale School of Management; Fudan University; École des Ponts Business School, France; as well as The Cambridge Innovation Programme, and Georgetown University. The timely address of Hong Kong`s development needs were evident with the establishment of the Institute of Healthcare Management (HCM) in 2017, under the inspirational leadership of Dr the Hon Leong Che Hung, Chairman of its Advisory Board. With a mission to advancing management excellence in Hong Kong and the Region, the HCM showed impressive progress in its early stage of development with programmes on Dental Nursing, Health Cultivation, Child Psychology, Healthcare Management, Blockchain, and so on, in answer to Hong Kong`s ageing population and the manpower demand for the healthcare sector. The inaugural launch of the Sustainability Award in 2017 in response to the growing prominence of sustainability among economic, social, and environmental aspects of organizations, garnered an encouraging response from more than 100 organizations in its infancy stage. The Association is confident that more organizations will continue to embark on their sustainability journey for lasting business success. The Association has always been keen on broadening its offerings of membership activities, and 2017 was no exception when digital marketing trends were promptly addressed with a newly inaugurated specialist club, the Digital Marketing Community (DMC), which served as a focal point for digital marketing specialists and enthusiasts who aspire to network, learn, and share emerging trends of digital marketing. Alongside the Professional Managers` Club (PMC), also debuted in 2017 aiming to provide a platform for business executives who wish to keep abreast of the latest trends in management, both specialist clubs have already arranged a number of events attracting over 1,500 executives. Mr Thompson paid tributes to the two Deputy Chairmen, all the members of the Council, Sub-committees, Management Committees, Working Committees, Organizing Committees, as well as the Specialist Clubs. "With the concerted efforts of all our stakeholders, I am sure the Association will continue to witness new breakthroughs and flourish in the years to come," he said. At the Council Meeting held immediately after the Annual General Meeting, Mr James Thompson GBS, Chairman, Crown Worldwide Holdings Ltd was re-elected as Chairman. Mr Helmuth Hennig, Group Managing Director, Jebsen & Co Ltd and Dr Y K Pang GBS JP, Deputy Managing Director, Jardine Matheson Limited, were re-elected and newly-elected as Deputy Chairmen respectively. And Ms Mary Huen, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited will be the new Council Member this year. A "Meet the Chairman and Council" Networking Drink was held immediately after the Council Meeting at the Hong Kong Club.
