Wins the Top Prize of the 2017 HKMA Quality Award

Results of the annual HKMA Quality Award, one of the most prestigious business awards in Hong Kong, were proudly announced by Mr Helmuth Hennig, Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Management Association, during the Award Presentation Ceremony held today (Friday, 21 July 2017) at the Intercontinental Hong Kong.

The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd was awarded the Grand Award in recognition of its strong commitment and distinguished achievement in total quality management. The Dairy Farm Company, Limited - Wellcome and Luen Thai International Group Limited were awarded the Excellence Awards; and the Merit Awards went to Gilman Group, Lik Kai Engineering Company Limited, Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel; Gateway Hotel; Prince Hotel and Ngong Ping 360 Limited while the Special Awards for SMEs went to Antonhill Company Limited, Arnhold & Co., Ltd, Ultra Active Technology Limited and Well Synergy International Limited.

Following are some brief but specific comments on each winner:

GRAND AWARD WINNER:

The Hongkong Electric Co., Ltd
HK Electric demonstrates effective and systematic approaches responsive to the overall requirements of the Criteria. The company has adopted and well-deployed a fact-based approach without significant gaps in any areas, and it integrates directly with the company`s current and future organizational needs. It is able to sustain and perform over an extended period due to its strong senior leadership, nurturing staff culture, and excellent operation performance. Their ability to set high operational and safety standards clearly demonstrated the accomplishment of HK Electric`s Mission.

EXCELLENCE AWARD

The Dairy Farm Company, Limited - Wellcome
Wellcome has been growing its stores and has become the largest supermarket network in Hong Kong with increasing differentiation, upscale stores and upgrading ranges for the past ten years. Its brand equity index and sales per square feet and per store are on an upward trend. On the societal front, Wellcome demonstrates good corporate citizenship and is well recognized for its efforts to reduce food wastage and lighting energy consumption, recycle heat, fixtures and consumables, preserve historic sites, and support green groups and communities.

Luen Thai International Group Limited
Luen Thai demonstrates an effective and systematic approach which is responsive to the overall requirements of the Malcolm Baldrige criteria. The approach is well-deployed. In particular, the company has demonstrated a fact-based, systematic evaluation and improvement process as well as an organizational learning including innovation, for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of its key processes. The approach is aligned with its overall organizational needs as identified in response to the companys profile and other process items.

MERIT AWARD:

Gilman Group
Rooted with a strong heritage and the clear vision to be a leading distributor and service organization, Gilman has been delivering its strength by providing quality services and products, serving the Hong Kong community with its competence in product sourcing, brand building, sales and marketing, and award-winning after-sales services. All in all, Gilman has been able to survive in the tough business environment and become a successful "Hong" marching into the new era.

Lik Kai Engineering Co. Ltd.
Senior management of Lik Kai successfully transformed the company from a process driven, reactive and functionally focused traditional company into a proactive, professional and systematic engineering organization. A sustainable organization culture is built which aligns with the values of operational efficiency and professionalism. The company demonstrates effective and systematic approaches to the overall requirements of the Malcom Baldrige criteria. The success of the company is fully exemplified by its growth figures.

Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel; Gateway Hotel; Prince Hotel
The stakeholders strive for providing "Exceptional and personalized service, exceeding expectations, and inspiring a connection to our brand in the experiences we provide". Numerous measurements are in place to engage their customers and employees. The ExCom and Associates demonstrate exceptional passion and professionalism in serving their guests, and the culture of the Marco Polo Way is internalized in their daily work.

Ngong Ping 360 Limited
By building strategic partnerships and banding attractions together, NP360 creates an appealing and unique tourist experience. Since 2009, NP360 has continuously introduced new initiatives and customer services. With a clear articulation of VMV, strategic partnership and composite of key measures, the organization has demonstrated effective leadership, process control and good results on safety, governance, community contribution and an overall upward trend in financial performance.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR SMES:

Antonhill Company Limited
The underlying elements for Antonhill`s success over these 30+years are its clear vision of being the leader in corporate fashion, values in teamwork, quality customer services, strict policies on governance and ethics, and staff caring. It supports its staff under the principle of "one for all, all for one". Management by empowerment has been successfully demonstrated. Antonhill achieves its solid business and workforce results and actively supports key communities in Hong Kong and China. Therefore, it has received various awards on customer services, strategy, and best practices.

Arnhold & Co., Ltd.
Arnhold has established itself as a world-class supplier of decorative stone products. Its portfolio of brand name products and the recently developed own brand products are well received by the market. Benefiting from the strong relationships with customers and suppliers, most of the businesses including export to overseas are acquired through referrals. These solid results are echoed by the existence of a stable workforce with almost half of them have been serving Arnhold for over 10 years, and also the external recognitions on its outstanding performance on employee caring and environmental protection.

Ultra Active Technology Limited
Being a strong market player, Ultra Active Technology Limited (UTA) is penetrating in new markets of mid-size customers, property security and advertising media. With a number of family friendly practices in place to support a work-life balance culture, UTA creates a joyous workplace with positive atmosphere. Its operation also aligns well with its strategic plans and objectives. Furthermore, the company is certified withOHSAS 18001 and is a founding member of the Caring SME Alliance. Well Synergy International Limited
Started its business in 2011, Well Synergy International Limited has been a young corporation yet one of the leading marketing and distribution companies of food-related fast-moving consumer goods in Hong Kong. The workforce is relatively stable, with 8 staff members serving the company since 2012. The key brand occupies over 70% of the retail market share while the market share of other brands is also increasing, which reflects the favourable business achievements of the company. The company has therefore received numerous awards on sales and marketing excellence.

Introduction of the HKMA Quality Award
The Association introduced the annual Quality Award in 1991 to give recognition to those companies in Hong Kong which have made a lasting commitment to quality and also to provide an opportunity for companies to share with one another their experience in Total Quality Management. This year marks the 26th Anniversary of the HKMA Quality Award.
