SPEAKS AT THE HKMA 56th ANNUAL FELLOWSHIP DINNER
MR ALFRED CHAN BBS AWARDED HONORARY PRESIDENT

Prof Frederick Ma GBS JP, Chairman, MTR Corporation Limited delivered a thought-provoking speech to 500 members and guests of The Hong Kong Management Association at its 56th Annual Fellowship Dinner at InterContinental Hong Kong on Thursday, 24th November 2016.

Honorary Presidency
During the occasion, Mr Alfred Chan BBS, immediate past Chairman of the Association was awarded Honorary President. Mr James Thompson GBS, Chairman of the Association said, "Under Alfred`s insightful direction, the Association has extended the reach of our mission to post-secondary students, and successfully built brand attachment and loyalty among younger generations. These meaningful initiatives have placed us in a strategic and competitive position to better serve the ever-changing needs of the business community."

Fellow and Charter Membership
In the occasion, 10 new Fellows and Charter Members were presented. Fellows are individuals who have distinguished themselves in the management field either by example or by contributing towards the general body of theory, philosophy and management practice. The six new Fellows this year are:
  1. Mr Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges GBS JP, Chief Executive Officer, The Hong Kong Jockey Club
  2. Prof Frederick Ma GBS JP Chairman, MTR Corporation Limited
  3. Mr Daryl Ng JP, Executive Director, Sino Group
  4. Mr Paul Poon, Managing Director, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited
  5. Ms Edith Shih, Head Group General Counsel and Company Secretary, CK Hutchison Holdings Limited
  6. Mr Kent Wong, Managing Director, Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited

Charter Members are outstanding corporate bodies or companies, which are admitted by invitation only. The four new Charter Members this year include:

  1. Hong Kong Airlines Limited
  2. Hong Kong Life Insurance Limited
  3. Marsh (Hong Kong) Limited
  4. Tai Hung Fai Enterprise Company Limited
Professors of Practice
This year, the HKMA Institute of Advanced Management Development (AMD) introduced the Professor of Practice scheme. The title Professor of Practice would be offered to individuals who are active in their career and would be prepared to support AMD. Prof Roy Chung BBS JP, Chairman of the Advisory Board of AMD said, "It has been a world-wide trend for academic institutions and education organizations to appoint Professors of Practice in support of their work. It is also the right time for us as a leading management organization advancing management excellence to recognize the like-minded practitioners who have contributed enormously towards the wider business community as well as the AMD." The four new Professors of Practice this year are:
  1. Professor Alan Barrell, Entrepreneur in Residence at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning, Cambridge Judge Business School
  2. Ms Viveca Chan, Chairman & CEO, WE Marketing Group
  3. Dr Darwin Chen SBS, Honorary Chairman, Peter F Drucker Academy
  4. Mr Shih Wing Ching JP, Chairman and CEO, Centaline Group

Management Development Credit Unit (MDCU) Award

To recognize the achievement of companies in staff training and human resources development, three companies were awarded the Management Development Credit Unit (MDCU) Awards. Chow Tai Fook Jewellery Group Limited is awarded "Most Significant Growth Award". Neway Karaoke Box Limited and Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited were awarded the MDCU "Largest Sponsor of Staff Members Award" and "Largest Sponsor of Training Hours Award" respectively.

Graduation Ceremony of HKMA / Lingnan Joint Advanced Diploma Programmes


The Graduation Ceremony of Advanced Diploma in Management Studies (ADMS) (formerly Diploma in Management Studies) and Advanced Diploma in Business Management (ADBM) (formerly Diploma in Business Management) was also held at the dinner. This year, more than 300 students successfully completed and graduated from the programmes. Established by The Hong Kong Management Association in 1975 (ADMS) and 1982 (ADBM), and jointly organized with Lingnan University since 1998, the ADMS and ADBM programmes aim to meet the needs of in-service managers and executives who seek a formal education in modern business management. Over 27,000 students have been graduated from the programme. The Advanced Diplomas are widely recognized by overseas universities and graduates are also granted membership or exemptions by a number of prominent professional institutes.
