Win the Top Prizes of the 2014 HKMA Quality Award

Results of the annual HKMA Quality Award, one of the most prestigious business awards in Hong Kong, were proudly announced by Mr James Thompson GBS, Chairman of 2014 HKMA Quality Award Organizing Committee; and Deputy Chairman of The Hong Kong Management Association, during the press conference of the Award held today (Friday, 25 July 2014) at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Disneyland Management Limited and Maxim`s Caterers Limited - Cakes & Bakery Division were awarded the Gold Awards in recognition of its strong commitment and distinguished achievement in total quality management. The Langham, Hong Kong was awarded the Silver Award and the Special Award for SMEs went to Tung Fat Ho Building Material Limited.

During the press conference, Mr Thompson stated that "more and more Hong Kong companies are now aware that the desire for success must be accompanied by the quest for excellence." Professor Matthew Yuen, Chairman of the Board of Examiners, further added that the Examiners were very pleased to note that, "all the four finalists have achieved high standard and the competition amongst them has been very keen."

Following are some brief but specific comments on each winner:

GOLD AWARD WINNERS (according to the alphabetical order of the company names):

Hong Kong Disneyland Management Limited
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort (HKDL) is the largest full-time employer in the entertainment and recreation industry in Hong Kong. With a virtuous cycle for its organic growth, HKDL is able to establish clear strategic process and goals for short and long term development. Innovation is its rich heritage. The Lines of Business are fully responsible for implementing the action plans with clear accountability and ownership. The Human Resources Department works with the Lines of Business to develop the Human Resources Plan that is aligned with the organization`s strategies. A performance management system is established in assessing operational and organizational performance in brand health, guest satisfaction, operation efficiency, with high level KPIs to match its strategies. As a result, HKDL has maintained a high guest satisfaction rating with overall experience, and sustain high penetration rate in Chinese and International arrival guests.

Maxim`s Caterers Limited - Cakes and Bakery Division
Maxim`s Cake and Bakery Division (CBD) is responsible for the cake and bakery business and the branded products with four major brands and over 250 outlets. CBD has a clear long-term business direction which is crucial to the success of implementing a multi-brand strategy and rebranding exercise. To ensure that the management has a good understanding of the progress of the strategies implementation, a rolling 3-Year performance projection for each brand is established, including comparative data and benchmarking studies. Customers are segmented into different groups with clearly identified characteristics and needs. Work processes are designed for robust and effective mass production, while embedded with agility and industry-leading technology to cater for rapid market changes. CBD`s has demonstrated strong commitment to promote Total Quality Management that balances the interests of its stakeholders.

SILVER AWARD WINNER:

The Langham, Hong Kong
The Langham, Hong Kong (TLHKG) is the flagship hotel of Langham Hospitality Group (LHG) in Hong Kong. The Senior Leaders ensure VMV, strategies, organizational performance and innovation opportunities are translated into action plans and practical projects. Action plans are effectively communicated to its workforce and are being implemented in all departments. The company effectively reaches out to its former, current and potential customers and through different listening methods to communicate with customers. All the voices are collected, analyzed and translated into specific actions for improvement. TLHKG has established a performance management system in five Key Results Areas. It sets "Target" as the goal and "Stretch" to drive for best performance. The group as a whole has demonstrated itself as a good TQM example to the hospitality industry.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR SMES

Tung Fat Ho Building Material Limited
Tung Fat Ho Building Material Limited (TFH) is one of the leading local ironmongery suppliers in Hong Kong founded in 1950. Top management excels at anticipating future needs and formulates key success strategies to enhance company`s branding. On customer focus side, the company values after-sales services and sets up an engineering team to deliver at least one-year warranty instead of the industry`s three-month warranty norm. As part of the strategy to transform the company to a professional service provider, the company has earmarked 2.5-3% of payroll for staff to attain professional qualifications and skills enhancement. It is also the first in the industry to deploy ERP system and ISO accreditations. TFH has transformed from an initial retail timber business into a current total solution service business.

2014 HKMA Quality Award
The Association introduced the annual Quality Award in 1991 to give recognition to those companies in Hong Kong which have made a lasting commitment to quality and also to provide an opportunity for companies to share with one another their experience in Total Quality Management.
