Contribution to Korean Education in Hong Kong
Dr Victor Lee was awarded "Certificate of Commendation" by
Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong

Dr Victor S K Lee, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Management Association was awarded "Certificate of Commendation" by Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong on 6 February 2012. The certificate was presented by Mr Jun Ok-hyun, Consul General of Consulate General of the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong. Dr Lee was commended for his dedicated service and outstanding contributions to the promotion of Korean language education as well as the mutual understanding between the Republic of Korea and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

With the rising popularity of Korean drama, there has been a noticeable growing need for Korean language studies and culture among Hong Kong people. Such development was accelerated by the Korean TV drama, Daejanggum, which was on everyone`s lips in 2005.

Dr Victor Lee has been the pioneer in Korean language education in Hong Kong. Back in 2001, Dr Lee initiated the first Korean language course to provide opportunities for those people who aspire to learn Korean in Hong Kong. In 2003, he took the lead to introduce the most prestigious Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) in Hong Kong and co-organized the Test with Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Hong Kong.

Other significant contributions to the development of Korean language learning in Hong Kong made by Dr Lee included the organization of Korean Speech Contest since 2005; establishment of Korean Language Education and Culture Centre in 2008, which was given the title of King Sejong Institute by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea in 2010; and organization of the 5th International Conference on Korean Language and Culture Education in 2011.
