KTMC boys Becomes Hong Kong Game Champion

2/8/2010

A team code-named KTMC boys emerged as the Champion of the Hong Kong Management Game last Saturday (31 July) by outperforming five other finalist teams.

The Management Game is a simulation exercise making use of the computer program SIMBUSI to simulate a competitive business environment.

In the Hong Kong Final, each of the six teams managed a company selling electronic books in retail and export markets. Their business objective was to outperform all other competitors and return the highest profit.

Apart from the typical decisions like pricing, marketing and production, teams have to make different decisions like whether to enter a newly developed market and whether to pre-install some popular comics in their products. In the middle part of the competition, they also had to compete amongst each other to secure an exclusive sponsorship of an NGO project. A team codenamed G&A Forever won the bid and received 10 Ocean Park entry tickets, kindly donated by Ocean Park Hong Kong.

At the end of the six periods, KTMC boys reaped a total of $29.7 million profit and won the honour of Hong Kong champion. The team from CHAN & TAM became the first runner-up, and the team from AON Hong Kong Limited, came third.

The champion team was awarded four airtickets to Singapore, a cash prize of HK$25,000 and the SCMP Morning Post Perpetual Trophy.

The first runner-up team received a cash prize of HK$10,000. The second runner-up, AON Hong Kong Limited, was awarded a cash prize of HK$5,000.

The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held immediately after the competition. It was officiated by Ms Olivia Wong, General Manager - Leadership Development, John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd; Ms Connie Ho, Chief Operation Officer, Ma Belle Jewellery Co Limited; Mr Keith Siu, General Manager (Finance, IT, Group Human Resources), Maxim`s Group; Mr Reginald Chua, Editor in Chief, South China Morning Post Publishers Limited; and Mr Timothy Fong, Deputy Director, The Hong Kong Management Association.

The Hong Kong Champion team will represent Hong Kong to compete in the Asian Final against winners from India, Macau, Malaysia and Singapore. Each area takes turn to play host to the Asian Final and this year it will be held in Hong Kong on 12 September.

Organized by the Hong Kong Management Association, the Game is sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, FANCL, John Swire & Sons (HK) Limited, Ma Belle Jewellery Company Limited, Maxim`s Group, the South China Morning Post, Classified Post as well as Jiu Jik.
