A team code-named I-JAW Co Ltd from Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd emerged as the Champion of the Hong Kong Management Game last Saturday (26 July) by outperforming five other finalist teams.
The Management Game is a simulation exercise making use of the computer program SIMBUSI to simulate a competitive business environment.
In the Hong Kong Final, each of the six teams managed a company selling TV-Box in different markets: its own store, the industrial market and an export market.Their business objective was to outperform all other competitors and return the highest profit.
Apart from the typical decisions like pricing, marketing and production, teams have to make the difficult decision of selling off an obsolete product at a loss. Those which were willing to make the decision early turned out to suffer less loss as there were secondary markets to take up the product. Those which delayed the decision suffered almost a total loss in a thin market.
At the end of the six periods, I-Jaw CoLtd reaped a total of nearly $6 million profit and won the honour of Hong Kong champion. The team from 3-Tenths Luck (三成好運) became the first runner-up, and the team from Friends 4, also from HKACTL, came third.
The champion team was awarded four airtickets to Kuala Lumpur sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd, a cash prize of HK$28,000 and the SCMP Morning Post Perpetual Trophy sponsored by the South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd.
The first runner-up, led by Mr Edward Ma received a cash prize of HK$14,000. The second runner-up, led by Mr Lo Sze Yui, was awarded a cash prize of HK$8,000.
The Prize Presentation Ceremony was held immediately after the competition. It was officiated by Mr Paul Liu, HK SLS Manager, Sun Microsystems Limited; Ms Grace Fung, Director, Classified Advertising, South China Morning Post Publishers Ltd; and Dr Tony Wo, Assistant Director, The Hong Kong Management Association.
The Hong Kong Champion team will represent Hong Kong to compete in the Regional Final against winners from India, Macau and Singapore. Each area takes turn to play host to the Regional Final and this year it will be held in Hong Kong on 24 November.
