The Hong Kong team emerged as the Champion of the AAMO Regional Management Game last Saturday (26 November) by outperforming five other finalist teams from Singapore (2 teams), India (2 teams) and Macau.
The Regional Final of the AAMO Regional Management Game is an annual regional competition and The Hong Kong Management Association is honoured to play host this year. The Management Game is a simulation exercise making use of the computer program SIMBUSI 3 to simulate a competitive business environment.
In the Regional Final, all the six teams became a medium sized company specialising in boxes of chocolates . In each of the six trading periods, the six participating teams, which consisted of four team members each, had to come up with strategic management decisions within 25 minutes after studying the information presented to them regarding their fictitious company, their competitors and the prevailing economic conditions. The business objective was to outperform all other competitors and produced the best business results.
However, like in the real world, they faced a number of difficult situations and had to try their best to formulate strategies to get around these difficulties. For example, they had to face very old-fashioned attitudes and management practices of their company, an increase in the price of cocoa beans and a decreasing demand for boxed chocolates.
At the end of the six periods, Hong Kong Team reaped a total of $23.5 million profit and won the honour of Regional Final Championship while the Singapore Team led by Mr Lee Kin Weng became the first runner-up. Both champion and first runner-up teams were awarded trophies.
The Prize Presentation Ceremony was officiated by Dr Dennis Sun BBS JP, Deputy Chairman, The Hong Kong Management Association and Chairman and Managing Director, Fuji Photo Products Co Ltd, and Mr Lau Tai Fai, Deputy Director, The Hong Kong Management Association.
