Management Association held on Monday, 12 July 2004 at its Headquarter,
Dr The Hon David K P Li GBS JP, Chairman of the Association, highlighted
that In 2003, Hong Kong experienced both great tragedy and great triumph
Although our programme last year was affected by the SARS outbreak, we
still enrolled over 50,000 students. Noteworthy is the fact that our Association
responded quickly to events.
Last year, with the assistance of its members and the local business
community, the Association launched a special scholarship programme to
benefit SARS-affected industries. The Association also launched a number
of courses to address the special challenges that managers faced, including
a programme in crisis management. To respond to the changing needs after
July 2003 when the economy started to rebound, the Association increased
the number of courses for the tourism sector, for small and medium enterprises
and for the property sector.
Catering to the full range of skills required in modern Hong Kong, a
variety of courses in business disciplines such as Banking Practices,
and Accounting and Taxation on the Mainland were offered. The Association
also offered professional diplomas in Computer Animation, Computer Game
Design and Digital Music. The diversity helped put Hong Kong at the forefront
of innovation, and enhance the competitive edge of Hong Kong business.
The Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement with China brought expanded
opportunities for Hong Kong manufacturers and services industries, said
Dr Li during the AGM. To forge closer ties with the Mainland, the Association
established new partnerships in number of major cities, including Beijing,
Chongqing, Panyu, Foshan and Zhanjiang. The Association also launched
the Award for China Marketing Excellence to recognize outstanding marketing
campaigns in the Mainland.
The Associations theme for the year 2003 was Moving Ahead with Confidence:
The Essence of Revitalizing Hong Kongs Economy. Several events over
the year were organized to explore the theme, in particular at the Susan
Yuen Memorial Lecture, when Dr Victor Fung, Chairman of the Hong Kong
