19/5/2004

Organized by The Hong Kong Management Association the 2004 HKMA Quality Award has entered into the final stage of competition. Around 100 companies have shown keen interest in the Award and 17 companies submitted the entry forms for initial assessment. After preliminary screening, several high quality companies were shortlisted to submit a final detailed write-up and gave presentations plus a Question-and-Answer Session before the Board of Examiners on Tuesday, 27 April 2004. The Examiners conducted on-site verification of claims made in submissions of shortlisted entries and recommended potential winners to the Panel of Judges who would then make the ultimate decision. All results will be announced at the Award Presentation Ceremony to be held on Thursday, 24 June 2004 at InterContinental Hong Kong Hotel.

Dr T Y Lee, Chairman of The Board of Examiners commented that, “The Examiners are impressed with the overall performance of entrants this year. Participating companies are all dedicated to quality management and put in tremendous efforts in improving direct communications between the top management and their frontline staff. These companies are especially conscious of the importannce of people management as happy employees would bring happy customers. Enhancing staff morale was an integral part in further pursuit of excellence.” He noted with pleasure that the participating companies came from a wide range of industries such as public utilities, banking, property management, business services, manufacturing, logistics, construction and engineering, financial services, and so forth. There was also an increase in the number of small and medium sized enterprises entered into the Award this year which was indeed a valid proof of the importance of quality management irrespective of company sizes and nature. All entries will be evaluated according to the seven major Award Criteria namely Leadership; Strategic Planning; Customer and Market Focus; Measurement, Analysis, and Knowledge Management; Human Resource Focus; Process Management; and Business Results.
