The criteria of selection include: conformity with accounting standards, conformity with the requirements of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and Companies Ordinance, provision of additional information relating to corporate governance, general presentation, understandability, summary of past results and highlights, management discussion and analysis, indications of prospects, employee relations and development, as well as promptness of reporting. For the General Category, the Panel of Adjudicators commended that the overall standard of annual reports this year remained very high... Winners of this years Awards produced reports of exceptional quality with excellent use of photographs, charts, tables and innovative, eye-catching layouts to give depth and perspective to the companys performance and image. These reports have set an example of anticipation and innovation in meeting the increasingly higher standard of reporting and transparency required of listed companies. It was noteworthy that a number of big companies, particularly those that use or produce natural resources or otherwise impact the environment or community, paid considerable attention to environmental, health and safety issues. Despite the standards of reporting, the Adjudicators mentioned that there was a fall in the overall promptness of report submission... More effort should be spent to discuss issues concerning employee relationships and development, work safety, training and general welfare in annual reports. For Non-profit Making and Charitable Organizations Category, the Adjudicators were satisfied with the continuous high standard with regard to quality of content and its delivery and presentation. The best performers succeeded in producing high quality content comprehensively covering their purposes, activities, performance and how they meet the needs of their respective constituencies and society as a whole. Some reports were also extremely well designed, creating a strong, positive image of the organization and its work thereby enhancing the prospect of winning greater support from their stakeholders and the public. For further improvement, the Panel highlighted that More attention should be paid to goals, visions, problems, planning and budgeting in order to give a full picture and help to draw in more of the support and understanding that would help to fulfil their aspirations.
