HKMA Grants 31 Scholarships to Individuals in Sars Affected Industries 1/12/2003
The outbreak of SARS earlier this year created havoc in the already fragile
economy. The damage done has threatened the livelihood of many Hong Kong
citizens and their self-confidence as active members of the society. A wide
range of industries were affected including hotel, airline, retail, education,
finance, real estate and so forth. Some of the executives working in these
sectors have been unemployed or underemployed and they are desperately in need
of practical assistance.
As an organization cares for the community, The Hong Kong Management Association has taken the initiative to offer HK$300,000 worth of scholarships to help enhance the competitiveness of Hong Kong executives through continuing education. The initiative has generated extensive support from individuals and companies in Hong Kong. The Association has raised another HK$320,000 from the private sector and a total of HK$620,000 worth of scholarships could be offered. The funds will be able to benefit 31 executives. They will enjoy full scholarships for diploma, professional diploma, certificate programmes, and seminars offered by the Association. Dr The Hon David K P Li GBS JP, Chairman of the Association was proud to announce during the Presentation Ceremony held this evening (Friday, 28 November) that “the Scholarship Scheme has been a great success.
