The HKMA Plays a Vital Support Role for the New Opportunities in Hong Kong 8/7/2003
During the 42nd Annual General Meeting of The Hong Kong Management Association held on Tuesday, 8 July 2003 at its Headquarter, Dr The Hon David K P Li GBS JP, Chairman of the Association, proudly reported that by the end of the year 2002, enrolment in the Associations courses reached 61,569, compared with 50,000 just three year previously. This significant increase is a testament to the determination with which the people of Hong Kong are preparing themselves for the new opportunities ahead. It is also a strong affirmation of the foresight and capability of our own Association, investing wisely to meet public demand. emphasized Dr Li. As the foremost management training institute in Hong Kong, the Association plays a vital support role for the new opportunities opening up around us. In 2002, more than 2,400 training programmes were offered. The Association expanded its offerings in the areas of Financial Services, Professional Services, Tourism, Logistics and Creative Industries, the five pillars of Hong Kong economy highlighted by the HKSAR Government. Moreover, the Association also focused its effort in taping in to the Government funding initiatives. In 2002, over 30 of the Associations programmes were eligible for grants under the Continuing Education Fund. The recent signing of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement with the Mainland would further enhance the opportunities available to Hong Kong companies. To strengthen its ties with the Mainland, in particular with the Pearl River Delta, the Association has upgraded offices in both Guangzhou and Shenzhen during 2002. At the Annual General Meeting, Mr Alfred Chan, Managing Director, The Hong Kong and China Gas Company Limited; Dr Alice Cheng GBS, Managing Director, Taching Petroleum Co Ltd; Mr Ian Fok, Managing Director, Yau Wing Co Ltd; Mr Daniel S C Koo OBE, Chairman, Shui Hing (HK) Ltd; Mr Irving Y Y Koo SBS JP; Dr The Hon David K P Li GBS JP, Chairman and Chief Executive, The Bank of East Asia Ltd and Mr David Turnbull, Deputy Chairman & Chief Executive, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd were re-elected as Council members of the Association.
