The HKMA Plays a Vital Role in Preparing Hong Kong Executives for the Opportunities and Challenges Ahead 9/7/2002
During the 41st Annual General Meeting of The Hong Kong Management Association held on Tuesday, 9 July 2002 at its Headquarter, Dr The Hon David K P Li GBS JP, Chairman of the Association, proudly reported that “during the past year, the Association has played a key role in upgrading the skills of the working population, managers and aspiring managers, and in preparing them for the next stage of Hong Kong’s development.”
In 2001, the Association offered more than 2,400 training programmes attracting a record of 57,000 participants, 2,000 more than the previous year. Among the programmes offered for the first time were certificate courses in e-Banking; knowledge management; logistics management; and a variety of courses on Mainland-related subjects. Degree programmes offered in association with leading overseas universities formed a key component of the Association’s curriculum and programmes leading to the degree of Master of Business Administration and other more specialized disciplines, were heavily subscribed. Diploma in Management Studies and Diploma in Business Management programmes, held in association with Lingnan University, continued to expand during the year with over 380 classes being offered. As China’s economic reforms take root, there are both great opportunities and great challenges ahead. To meet these changes, the Association has extended degree programmes to China, with a Master Degree in Engineering Management (conferred by the University of Technology, Sydney) offered in Guangzhou with the cooperation of the Guangzhou Pearl River Management School. The Annual Conference, with the theme “A Strategic Partnership between Hong Kong and Mainland China”, was also a great success. All these initiatives showed that the Association has fully embraced lifelong learning. The Association will constantly re-examine the relevance of its courses to help Hong Kong business succeed. As stated by Dr Li during the meeting, “we at the Hong Kong Management Association have great confidence in the future. We recognize that we live in a changing world. And we are always striving to stay at the forefront of change”.
