The Hong Kong Management Association is proud to announce that
the HKMA Award for Excellence in Training 2002 has attracted a record
number of entries this year. A record of 31 training programmes
have entered into this unique award which gives public recognition
of achievements in training and development to companies and human
resource professionals in Hong Kong. After the Shortlisting Interview
held on 1 March, a total of 14 training programmes were shortlisted
to go for the next stage of the competition.
The variety of organizations participating in this year`s Award
demonstrates that a wider community is recognizing the contribution
of training and development. Entries this year comprise companies
and organizations from a diverse field including retail, public
utilities, banking, properties management, professional services,
airlines, telecommunications, insurance and so forth.
Mr Graham Higgins, Chairman of the Human Resources
Development Management Committee of The Hong Kong Management Association,
noted with pleasure the increase in both the number and variety
of entries. "The Award has been organized since 1990. Over the years,
we have helped improve the quality of training and development in
Hong Kong by giving examples of good training and development and
by sharing experiences. The importance of training and development
to corporate results are now widely recognized as witnessed by the
enthusiastic response to the Award," said Mr Higgins.
Organized by the Human Resources Development
Management Committee of the Association, this annual competition
offers HRD professionals and trainers the opportunity to have their
efforts better recognized by their organizations, peer professionals
and the community. It will also provide additional motivation to
HRD and training professionals to extend their efforts.
The judging will be in three stages. At the
Shortlisting Interview, all participating companies will give a
simple verbal presentation (either in English or Cantonese) of the
training they have given, covering the content and the
implementation only, to a Board of Examiners
comprising members of the Human Resources Development Management
Committee and consultants from the Association.
Shortlisted entries will be invited to submit
a five-page summary of their training programmes. The best six entries
will be selected for the Final Presentation Seminar entitled "Benchmark
Your Training Practices With Some Of The Excellent Companies", which
will be held on 7 June 2002 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition
Centre. It is a half-day experience-sharing seminar open to all
executives whereby the six finalists will deliver a presentation
before the Panel of Adjudicators who will then decide the winners
