The School Management Committee of the HKMA
David Li Kwok Po College announced that Dr Pong Wing Yan, Assistant
Professor of the Department of Curriculum and Educational Studies
of the University of Hong Kong, has been appointed Principal of
the College.
Dr Pong is to succeed Dr David Wong, former Principal of the College
who has resigned owing to health reasons.
Dr Pong Wing Yan has extensive teaching experience. He has taught
in secondary schools for a number of years before joining the University
as a teacher educator. Dr Pong could be regarded as a locally nurtured
academic - he graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong
with a first degree, after which he continued his studies at the
University of Hong Kong and obtained a Certificate in Education,

Over the years at HKU, Dr Pong has been very active in both teaching

conference papers, and books. Recently, Dr Pong focused his research
on curriculum, teaching and learning. In 2000, he and his colleagues

Dr Pong has also participated actively in community service. He
is currently a member of the Promotion and Monitoring Committee
of the Quality Education Fund (Effective Learning Panel). He is
also a member of the School-based Curriculum Project Consultative
Committee of the Education Department. Dr Pong will begin his work
at the College only from September, as he needs to complete his
current responsibilities at the University. Meanwhile, Mr Teddy
Tang, Principal of the Hong Kong Management Association K S Lo College
will be seconded to serve as Acting Principal of the College.
Mr Teddy Tang is the Founding Principal of the K S Lo College. In
the duration of his 8-year able leadership, the K S Lo College has
built up its reputation and developed into one of the most improved
schools in Hong Kong. The College has also received several funds
from the Quality Education Fund to develop ISO 9002 quality management
standards and to promote 5-S practice in school. The College has
now become a new role model for the education community.
Dr Pang Wing Chung, Chairman of the HKMA David Li Kwok Po College
Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), said all parent members of PTA
Executive Committee have expressed their full support to the changes
made by the School Management Committee.
"The Acting Principal Mr Tang is an experienced educator with a
proven record of administrative ability. Dr Pong is an expert in
curriculum and teacher development. The two admire each other and
I am sure that they will collaborate closely during the transition
period. From my personal experience with Dr Pong, I strongly feel
that he is an experienced and pragmatic educator with a vision.
He is a sincere person with an admirable personality. He adopts
an open attitude towards the opinions of parents and teachers. His
belief that `every child should be educated to his/her full potential`
and the principle of `the educational interests of the students
must be the first priority` will be essential in leading the school
to fulfill its mission. The PTA will give him full support and work
closely with the two principals," he stated.
