THE HKMA HAS ENJOYED A YEAR OF OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT IN 2000

During the 40th Annual General Meeting of The Hong Kong Management Association held on Tuesday, 3 July 2001 at its Headquarter, Dr The Hon David K P Li, JP, Chairman of the Association, proudly reported that the 40th Anniversary year of the Association was a year of outstanding achievement. With the guiding principle of "Towards a Knowledge-Based Society: Realizing and Nurturing our Talent", the Association reinforced its commitment to raising management standards and expanding opportunities for life-long learning.

In 2000, the Association provided 2,200 courses for more than 55,000 participants. The Association strengthened its linkage with the Mainland and overseas institutions and universities and broadened its provision of education and training programmes. With the fast evolving economy of Hong Kong which placed great strain on the workforce to adopt and apply new skills, the Association took a significant step in enhancing its provision of employee re-training by establishing the first course covering Chinese Input Method and Word Processing. The Association also expanded its programmes in English language training to support the Workplace English Campaign. In commemoration of the 40th Anniversary, the Association awarded 40 scholarships last year to managers in active employment to study in a Diploma Programme of their choice.

Entering into its fifth decade, "the activities of the Hong Kong Management Association have never been more central to the future development and prosperity of Hong Kong than they are now." said Dr Li. China's entry to the World Trade Organization (WTO) will bring both opportunities and challenges to Hong Kong. In view of this, the work of the Association will help ensure that Hong Kong's managers have the tools to overcome the challenges and to take advantage of the opportunities.

At the Annual General Meeting, Mr Allan Aw, Managing Partner, Arthur Andersen & Co; Mr Po Chung, OBE JP, Chairman, DHL International (HK) Ltd; Mr H M G Forsgate, CBE JP, Chairman, Eralda Industries Ltd; Mr A G Morrison, Chairman, Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Asia Ltd; Mr Godfrey Scotchbrook, Chairman (Asia), Scotchbrook - BSMG Worldwide (HK) Ltd; Dr Dennis Sun, Chairman and Managing Director, Fuji Photo Products Co Ltd; Mr Michael Tien, BBS JP, Chairman, The G2000 Group; and Dr Eric Yeung, Vice-President, Perfekta Enterprises Ltd; were re-elected as Council members of the Association.
