Program Overview

In this 1-day course, Professor Wilfred Fong will provide participants with a fundamental understanding of "data" and how it can be used as a strategic asset to improve management effectiveness, business operations and profits. You will learn best practices of data collection from various digital platforms as well as the building a sound data strategy. This course is designed to give small and medium businesses access to a level of data analytics and business insight which up until now has only been available to large companies with significant resources and budgets.

This workshop will consist of presentations, discussions and demonstrations. Case studies and practical exercises will be used throughout the course to help demonstrate fundamental data analytics and data strategy design.

About the Speaker

Prof Wilfred Fong

  • A former Chief Information Officer at the University of Toronto (U of T) School of Continuing Studies where he helped develop the Certificate Program in Data Science and IT Security
  • A Founding Faculty and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business and Information Technology, University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT)
  • Was Assistant Dean at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) School of Information Studies
  • Currently an Academic Advisor on International Programs with the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee and the development of a Data Science program at their School of Information Studies
  • Instructor of courses and seminars on IT-related topics, such as data analytics, IT leadership, information security and networking
