Speech topic: World-class railway delivers sustainable benefits to Hong Kong
Synopsis: The expansion of Hong Kong's world-class railway network is set to deliver significant economic, environmental and social benefits to the city.
By 2015, the Express Rail Link will be opening up economic opportunities in the Pearl River Delta and beyond, while three new local community rail lines revitalise some of the older urban districts.
Hong Kong also offers a compelling model for city living for the 21st century – one where a low-carbon transport backbone supports sustainable communities along its lines and by doing so, can operate on a self-sustaining basis without the need for direct taxpayer subsidy.
